Allowed WWI to happen. Not saying Germany started it or is to 100% blame. But he let the politcal situation go to shit. Everything Bismark had worked for was for nothing because of willy. He had a nice mustache though.

Wilhelm II managed to make Germany's precarious situation pre 1914 even worse. Bismarck advocated for careful posturing, friendly relations with everyone but France, and limited military buildup in favor of local investment, industry, and science.

Willy II, though, wasn't happy with this--Firstly, he decided that Germany needed a place in the sun, a colonial Empire. Why? Because it was cool. I'm serious. This is the only good reason; prestige. It's so dumb that it's hard to even fathom. This completely useless ambition necessitated a naval buildup.

The UK was fine with Germany until they started a naval buildup. This accomplished two things: 1. It wasted resources (The Imperial German navy wasn't even used during WW1 because the UK would've murdered it) 2. It made the UK nervous, and made them side with France.

This basically put Germany in an unwinnable situation. France and the UK on one end, and Russia on the other. Believe it or not, they could've won or at least battled it out to a stalemate if the Schlieffen Plan was executed better or if they'd just listened to sound advice and murdered Russia instead immediately.

Wihelm's jingoism and lack of realpolitik destroyed every colonial Empire. To this day, we suffer for it.
