The area where we shoot .22's has actually totally destroyed a tree in that area, but we shoot a lot. We propped it up and put targets on the fallen log, and when shooting a variety of guns. Over time it got shot to pieces too.

About 3 of us shoot, AK's, AR 15's, Mausers, .22-.45

I know the .223 goes right through the trees of any size no problem. Those are only 1099 ft/lbs of muzzle energy for a 55 grain fmj, and it shoots through the trees at 100 yards.

But something none of us have is .50 caliber anything. Yeah yeah the rifles have a faster muzzle velocity, but a .50 AE is a heavy round and it's still over 1500 ft per second, that gives it over 1500 ft/lbs of muzzle energy.

So, approximately 50% more muzzle energy than guns I've seen blast straight through 5-8ish inches of live wood at 300 ft, and these dumb fucks thought a book could stop it point blank.
