Sounds like Yankees. My Welsh Family already in the CSA by 1860 were in the Palmetto Sharp Shooters (Palmetto Jenkins Regiment) and . My two Great-Great Grandparents killed 6 to 8 Yankee Officer's over O-3 1862 and most others were Company D, 2nd Regiment South Carolina Cavalry. I still have my Great-Grandfather's cavalry sabre. It has been appraised at between $564,000 and $852,000.

Hey folks, I had a lot of Confederate ancestors and relatives. Just going with the ones I know the most about, one lost his hand at Mechanicsville and another was in the siege of Vicksburg and went through two stints in Union prison camps, after which his digestion was so wrecked from the starvation conditions that he could barely eat solid food for the rest of his life. I hate to see the monuments coming down all over the place because it sends the message that these people aren't worth remembering.

My maternal grandpa served in the Navy in WW2, was apparently a really straight and strict guy; probably my only hope for southern ancestry. Unfortunately, he died about a year before I was born and my mom never bothered to ask anything historically related.

I had family who fought for both the Union and Confederacy. I'm almost done with a book about southern unionists since I wanted to understand the mindset of my ancestors who did join the Union Army. That is good. I did not have any other Family in the US, before emigrated in the 90's. My Family were Mormons after the War(and still are) besides myself. We still have retained Welsh as our primary language, at least. Most of my Family went to the Montana Territory after the War and we are still there. I moved back to SC with my descendant(my second Uncle) in SC to continue our CSA roots. I have three
daughters children+four adopted children now(Welsh-Norwegian). All of my (biological) girls are very proudly Daughters of the Confederacy and I am a III%'er from the Revolutionary War and 1812.

The huge majority of my ancestry comes from English who settled in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Before the move I've found at least one British lord and a man who is in the Anglican Communion's calendar of saints. The family traveled to America and plenty served in the British military until the Revolution where they fought for freedom including one who I know served directly under George Washington. After the war many of them got land in Tennessee and moved becoming some of the first settlers here. They served in 1812, the Civil War for both sides, both world wars, Korea, and Vietnam. It's been fun trying to document everything I can.

My Family still in the US continued serving in every War until Grenada. I picked it up from there serving in OEF-A, OEF-I and OEF-P. My nephew(since I did not have any son's at birth) is now joining the US Army to continue off from me, and we continue until the US falls or balkanizes.

While I love the South, and dearly wish we could have been victorious, I must say that you could have a finer role model. Lee, while a tactical genius had very little skill and coordinating and controlling larger armies. He has little backbone to actually make his Generals obey. He was too polite and humble a man. For men like J.E.B. Stuart, A.P. Hill, and even Longstreet, he was too timid. Especially after the loss of Jackson.

Jackson on the other hand was a fine role model. Truly a southern man of fine character and bold courage. He raised up the men around him as they strive to be worthy of his command. He pushed his men hard, and yes, occasionally they bellyached, but never did they waver.

But then again, Jackson never commanded so many men. Perhaps in Lee's shoes he would not have done so well. Command of commanders is truly a far different thing then commanding of soldiers.

Read what you can, and remember even read about his faults. It is through his faults that you can learn to avoid his mistakes.
