Haiti gained independance from France in 1804. In 1825, France slapped on Haiti a debt for loss of property and revenues from slavery's enterprise - 150m gold francs.

The debt was only repaid in 1947 (some accounts say 1951). Slavery ended. in France in 1848

In fact, the Haitians remained in indirect slavery to France for an extra 100 years after most other nigs within the French dominion were freed.
