This theory has been suppressed sin 19th century. People hardly know his name but is yet to be proven alternative to Darwin's theory of evolution.
>Lamarckism is the idea that an organism can pass on characteristics that it has acquired during its lifetime to its offspring.
>Studies in the field of epigenetics and somatic hypermutation have highlighted the possible inheritance of behavioral traits acquired by the previous generation

TLDR: Basically this theory states that traits can not be inherited only from genetic lottery. One can pass on traits learned during their lifetime to their offspring that have no genetic origin.
If you learn a skill in life then you can pass it on. Kind like the whole meme idea.

That's kind of an exaggeration. Epigenetics shows that our environment can effect how our genes are expressed, and cause parts of the genome to translocate (literally jumping around). But, it's not like it can create entirely new genes or traits.
However, research shows some acquired learning can be passed down in basic forms, like fears associated with certain sensory cues (particularly smells).

I remember this from school... According to Lamarck a giraffe has a long neck because it wants to have one, to reach the leafs on a tree. This is then passed to the next generation. For Darwin it's slow random mutations and survival of only those with long necks, i.e. the fittest.
