The whole US healthcare debate is located around a secondary issue.
Dumb socialists argue that rich and middle class should pay much of overpriced healthcare while said overpriced healthcare should be "equitably" redistributed.
Normal people argue against them about who should get the benefits of the overpriced healthcare, but don't stop to think why is the healthcare so expensive in USA to begin with, citizens of the country most famous for its capitalism should.

TL;DR
Government and medical certification boards artificially limit number of people allowed to study medicine. You can't legally be a doctor if you don't study medicine, so supply of doctors is limited. Obviously prices of their services are high then.

On top of that insurance companies and government throw more paperwork at the existing doctors to try "manage the oddly high costs", so they have less time for doctoring, and the effective "amount" of doctor's worktime is further reduced. Prices rise again.
Some doctors get pissed off because they wanted to be full time doctors and now they have to be half time doctors and half time government office workers, so they say fuck that shit and change profession to something with less pointless bureaucracy. Boom, less supply more cost.

Besides that, you have stupid patent laws that allow pharma companies to do all sorts of dodgy shit to make more money of the "you can't just let people die so pay up" market while everyone is splitting hairs over the abovementioned problem without seeing it.
