Why is it that England with the rest of the UK managed to conquer 1/4 of the world but never succeded to unite their own island/(island with Ireland) and keeping it together as one country or forcing Scotland and the others to keep with them.
How is it possible to go from something so great to something so worse than meh...?

Because the 'English' are the inferior race of the British Isles.

They punched below their weight as an independent and self ruling people - they needed wiser rulers from the Danes/Normans/Welsh and finally the Scots to prosper.

The British Empire was powered by Scottish genius and military prowess, while the Welsh and Irish punched above their weight both militarily and in terms of poets/writers.

The English themselves have always been fairly worthless.
