Best-case scenario, they can build profiles on anons that could be used to go after them in the future or disrupt dialogue on chans. Wouldn't even be surprised if they could identify users based on posting style the way they do with handwriting, or based on the times when people post or the boards they use and what they say there. I imagine it'd actually be way easier to shill when it matters or ban people strategically or worse if they have profiles on anons. Trying to argue with anons is one thing, but trying to argue with anons who are only anonymous to each other is another thing altogether.

Worst-case scanario, they could intend to physically identify where anons are and deal with them personally for some reason. That's the most alarming and paranoid possibility.

Anybody who thinks devoting resources and effort towards building a database on anon isn't a worthwhile expenditure is a fool. 4chan hasn't been surface-web for a very long time now, and /pol/ especially has managed to put itself in the spotlight big-time in the last year. If it's worth it to gather information and addresses when dealing with rioters, protests, or civil agitators, there's no reason they wouldn't do it to the Nazi frogs on 4chan. Just look at the hate speech laws and the resulting arrests made across the pond. That's leaving aside the fact that anon has made a spectacle of personally investigating, doxxing, hacking, smearing, discrediting, and otherwise fucking with some very powerful and dangerous people lately.
