Why do they venerate the head of the state and treat secular philosophy as almost a religion? Why are they loyal like dogs to people who are above them? Are they divine to them?

We do draw that distinction. There was however once an influential thought system that taught they should form a unified whole; I forget the name on it. Maybe that gave rise to misconceptions about us at some point?
