Depends what you mean exactly by "determines", theres 2 sense of the word.

One means there's a direct causal relationship, where the cause of your value is itself capitalism.

There's a second sense which is to establish understanding of. Which has no causal properties.

One of the benefits of capitalism is that it allows a market of freely interacting people to essentially bid for skills and labour, and certain economic models equate the price people are willing to pay for those skills or labour as value.

In fact capitalism is really the only reliable mechanism we have to determine this type of value.

Careful conflating these 2 meanings, it could lead to arguments that contain fallacies of ambiguity.

Do you mean "money determines your value"? If so, according to whom? Your value to an employer depends on how much money you can make them, yes, but your value as a friend or family member certainly isn't.
I assume what you mean is that our society judges people too much on what they earn and on how much money they have rather than who they are as people, and I couldn't agree more. That's a problem with society, however, which is different from economic system of capitalism.
