Our entire culture feels like a father figure to much of the world, and the political system as the default setting of democracy

We still have a weird certain pride in the empire, and a smug satisfaction that no matter how powerful America gets, we were the first superpower and always will be

We are nostalgic about the idea of warm beer and cricket fields, and little old ladies riding their bicycles on winding village streets. Steam trains carrying smarty dressed men and women in a time when society was important and everyone had respect for the flag.

John Cleese once said the Englishman tries to make it through life without ever being embarrassed, and he was right. There's an ideal of repressing negative emotions, and only complaining about trivial things (the weather). We English have always had a surreal and offensive brand of humour, using insults amoungst friends as a form of endearment. We are a country that has never had a full scale revolution, but have always (since it was possible) made fun of our leaders and even monarchy.

We jokingly hate the French and the German, and we think back to the Napoleonic Wars as a national triumph. We can't walk through Trafalgar Square without a sense of patriotism. We know that we were the only country that won both wars (that were there from the start). Our men slogged away in the trenches. We started down an enemy in the form of Germany when nobody else would. A massive part of the English psyche is the idea of the society coming together to survive in 1940, and the victories 5 years on.

And then you walk down a fucking inner city street and a see a people who have forgotten all this. They are either not English, or have lost that sense of nostalgia for Waterloo and beating the Aussies at cricket.

basically compared to America British slags get on the cock carousal earlier. age of consent is 16 and plenty of girls begin shagging at that time or earlier. In our system you finish school at 16 which gives you a sense a maturity. Alcohol is legal at 18 but easy as fuck to get from 15 onwards, as we have a very lax view on underage drinking (many/most parents let their kids get drunk at weddings and drink in general from 15ish). Super easy to buy it yourself underage, I could get it from 14 onwards. What do you get when you combine leaving school at 16, a low age of consent and a society that doesn't mind shit faced teenagers? It means that by the time they're 20 a solid proportion of girls are full blown slags. Not just the slags who do it for attention who are everywhere, but the girls who learnt from 14/15 onwards that the way to release their sexual desires is to get shitfaced drunk and let some guy fuck them.
