When you have several more or less equal entities trying to coexist peacefully, they always need a higher authority to control them. If Yugoslavia found a way to replace Tito with a leader or mechanism on par with Tito, Yugoslavia would have survived.

Drawing any other conclusions about economic prosperity are nonsensical. It could have turned out fine economically, or it couldn’t.
