Accidents like that are extremely rare. In this situation, it was the Marine range coach who dropped the ball. We were required to make sure all weapons were clear, no matter what. When you graduate boot camp and become a Marine, you have to qualify annualy with your rifle. When you are a Marine at the range, you clear your own weapon. However, the block NCO will double check your weapon when you move to the next yard line. But, when it comes to recruits, it's like they are children and we have to check thier weapons all the time. Mothers in America tend to go ape shit when their babies get hurt or killed during basic training. Lawsuits and shit.
