The government needs to own and fix the problem that it created, which I admit would require huge changes in the muh American consumerist lifestyle. People might be encouraged to buy fresh food on the way home from work if they didn't have long workdays sucking up extra face time for no productive reason at all. Restaurants might be discouraged from buying frozen or out-of-season produce. Small food markets might be encouraged with tax credits replacing those given to large supermarket chains. If the government (by which I mean the fortunes of its executives and officials) were held accountable for and bore the costs of the problem it created, rather than employing the time-honored American habit of simply drawing an arbitrary line and declaring the problem out of their scope, it would be more likely to fix it.
