I think it's far too long and repetitive, but I'm not sure where to cut down, but here goes:
You know guys, there's this thing that reading the libertarian point of view that has made me think. There is this thing about libertarians that makes me feel morally uneasy. Why is that? Why is it that me, as the Nationalist Social Democrat that I am, can't agree with the libertarian perspective? There has to be some reason. Now, the libertarians will say that the individual is holy, and that taxation is theft. And those are the things that I think makes me feel that they're morally in the wrong. But why is that? Those are my feelings on the matter, but why are those my feelings on the matter?

I do not think it is because of their views on taxation. Those seem to me to merely be playing a semantics game, and should you turn the tables on them by defining theft as taking something you're not allowed to take, and that the tax man is allowed to take the taxes, they will merely be mad that you're arguing semantics. The pot calling the kettle a nigger, as it were.

No I think that my disagreements with the libertarian is our different views on a truly fundamental issue. Namely:

First of all, I think that the problem is one of extremes. The communists don't see the individual at all, and the libertarian denies the very existence of the society as a thing of value to begin with. It's obvious that the communist is in the wrong. Individuals have value. They are what creates families, that create societies who again coagulate into peoples with nations. If we view the people and the nation as important, it would therefore be self evident that while not the singular point of importance that libertarians would grant them, individuals are actually important. I hate having to spell out the obvious, but I fear that if I don't, people will all too readily assume it. So to prevent that, please forgive me these indulgent statements.

So the individual is important. But who is more important, the individual or the greater society? It stands to me that if the greater society actually treats the individual right, then the individual will have a family. He will likely be married, have children, parents, siblings, nephews and nieses, and so on. I do not think that any healthy father would hesitate to sacrifice himself for his family if such a sacrifice is necessary. Nor would any healthy society fail to honour such a sacrifice. Furthermore, a healthy society would take care of his family after such a noble deed, because it is intuitive that honourable deeds be honoured. Such a healthy society would therefore take care of its individuals who in turn would take care of its society. Even if called upon to give the greatest of sacrifices, the individual man would not hesitate to do so, for he would know that society would only ask such of him if it was necessary. He would do so knowing that his family would be safe, and that his sacrifice would be honoured.


In such a healthy society, it also makes sense to divide the material posessions of land, labour and money into two rough halves. Namely that of the private and the communal. Clearly, if you work hard, you should be rewarded more. If you instead value free time to do other things, like reading, painting, or such, you may be free to do that, but you would have to give up material rewards in order to do so. Since individuals value such things differently, they should have the freedom to make those different choices. Again, we're assuming healthy individuals and a healthy society.

Clearly thought the commons, owned by society as a whole would need upkeep, and thus there would be a need for transfer of wealth to society as a whole. In a healthy society, this would not be a major hassle. People may not like paying taxes, but it would be fine. Those monies would be spent in the community.

People would see their tax dollars at work, when they have firefighters, doctors, policemen, teachers and the like employed and working for a common good. They would delight when they have roads, sewage and electricity. They would smile as they saw their towns beautified, and as beauty helps mental health (which is why the modernist brutalism trend of building ugly buildings is degenerate: It makes populations as a whole more susceptible to mental health problems.), it makes them healthier.

The only reason I can imagine for this state of affairs to not be self evidently superior is if society is sick, and/or the people is sick. Therein lies my problem with libertarians. They can see that their current society is sick. So they want to excise it. I can see that. But they don't offer a replacement outside ad-hoc solutions. They also assume that their own sickness would heal by itself.

And I can't agree with that.
Individuals don't create a future. Families do. Humans aren't meant to be alone, and our choices have consequences outside of our own bodies. Therefore I cannot accept the primacy of the individual. Which is why Sargon of Akkad thinks I'm a nazi or something.

tl;dr. I think libertarians deny the importance of a strong healthy society with eigenpower, and instead only accept the individual as a unit of importance. I don't think that this is a good thing.
