What are your thoughts on distributism?

It's easy to say in theory that the means of production should be spread as widely as possible, but the reality is that some entity will always have to be the one to do the spreading. In the case of distributism, this entity would likely be the Church - which as a result of its role as the distributor would end up with the majority of the means of production. The Church would then supersede the state and what we're left with is socialism.
Distributism isn't as far removed from socialism as its followers would like to believe anyway. imo it is just meant to bring as much power to the Catholic Church as possible - a demonstrably corrupt entity throughout history.

What if it werent a revolution that began the order but something closer to settlements? If a developed community wanted to enact distributism there would need to be a ruling body but not if you get in on the ground floor, correct?

Someone would still have to decide how to ensure that the means of production are widely distributed. As Distributism is based upon Catholic teachings, the responsibility of distribution would have to fall upon the Church.
I guess there's a chance the distribution might be done fairly, I just don't think it's likely given how ruling entities have operated throughout history.
