Funny you mention anon, I practice Buddhism too. I have a shrine at home and meditate as routine, and I go to a nearby temple whenever I'm able. Buddhism in practice fits alongside Christianity surprisingly well. Buddhism provides me with the tools for introspection and grounding, Christianity appeals to the side of me that has experienced the unexplainable and gets value out of some forms of worship and ritual.

Right on man. I wasn't raised with the rigid backgrounds of Buddhism and its scholarly teachings and what not, which allowed me to actually appreciate the aspects my mom cherished about Buddhism: Focusing on the best of the moment and clearing your mind of the negative.

That energy and synergy when combined with faith in God provides for some powerfully motivating meditation sessions (I use the prayer beads as a tactile counting reflex to gauge the pace of my breathing). I don't do it often, just when I feel extra stressed and trouble a few times a month to clear all the negative cobwebs in my mind.

Prayer beads are great. I go on pilgrimage yearly and always get mine blessed at the shrine we end up at. I keep them in my pocket and thumb through them if I'm agitated, and they always remind me of the calm from that shrine. Puts me back in the moment really easily.

A lot of the inexplicable things I've encountered have been after long meditation sessions. Weird imagery and sensations that I can't attribute solely to my mind playing tricks on me or anything. Come out of it feeling almost euphoric and with the understanding that I just experienced something profound, though not able to really articulate why. The mind is weird.

I've yet to read anything he's published but I've watched videos of him talking on various topics. Would you recommend any reading in particular?

The person I've learnt the most from when it comes to Buddhism is Sogyal Rinpoche. 'The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying' is a great read.
