I admit it was tragic for the families but in terms of the Australian population we recovered easily.


If you want to talk about awful wars for a regions population look at things like the 30 years war, the losses of population took were far worse than our losses in WW1, it would be the equivalent of losing two million people for Australia in 1915. 11 thousand is nothing.

You can't discuss Gallipoli without discussing the rest of the war, you claimed that Gallipoli was somehow worse for Australia because of the deaths per capita, all I'm doing is saying that the Brits lost more men in Turkey and lost more men per capita during the entire war.

I disagree that they are different subjects, you can't use the per capita deaths for a single campaign as evidence for how awful it was for Australia and then ignore the per capita deaths for the rest of the war for the UK. Either way, more Brits died in Turkey, more French died than Australians too.

Again, the leadership was not incompetent, for the time it was a first rate plan tactically and strategically that could change the entire war. If it had succeeded the central powers would be completely surrounded and Russia could receive much needed support. We only now know it was a bad plan in hindsight.

Its indisputable that not only did the Australians land on the wrong beach (not their fault) but they landed on a beach that was almost entirely undefended. The first Australian landing was opposed by 80 Turks. The pushed up two rises before stopping, a fatal mistake in hindsight, their pause gave the Turks time for reinforcements to arrive, this ensured they could hold that same ridge for the rest of the campaign. Stopping all Entente forces from storming it. If you land on the wrong beach it is only natural that your maps aren't going to work.
