I have a theory that some share that the church is playing the long con by waiting for polygamy to be legal. Once that happens they will let certain members practice it. Once it becomes socially acceptable they will let everyone practice it.

Just read the CES letter. I read everything by the church for many years. I was a gospel doctrine teacher, elders quorum pres, and the primary chorister for many many years. My family name even comes from one of Joseph's wives.

This was what made me realize I had to get out and fast. I've seen whole wards go down. They are combining them like crazy because people are leaving in droves. I had so many people privately messaging me asking for help on how to get out.

It's a crazy fucked up culture and world that outsiders have no idea about unless they are longtime converts and or were resized in it. I'm still trying to get my parents out. Mom was a convert so it's hard for her to abandon something that she has given her life to. It would be a slap in the face to all her relatives that begged her not to join.

Yup. This is the inherent problem Mormonism is facing. Like the cafeteria Mormons on this thread, they don't really know their own doctrine but have formed communities and cultures online where they can "believe how they want".

The other problem is you have oldfags in the church who grew up pre-correlation. The church is in a major bind.

It's literally not even the same church as it was 5 years ago. Lamanites aren't lamanites, being a god isn't doctrine anymore (but sometimes is). Joseph commited adultery (but that's cool and part of a bigger plan).

I can't "join" any religion (after having been in one for so long) but I hold to Christian beliefs (not Mormon beliefs). I believe Christianity is fundamental to our culture, law and societal fabric (especially in America). Do i believe in Jesus? Sure. I'm ok with believing in him if he's out there. But I ain't about to join a "religion" and dance around holy rolling and shit. I'm pretty sure Jesus wouldn't be joining any specific church either. Most Christian churches are part of the "body of Christ" anyway.

Not interested in Buddhism (but I get its teachings). Islam can fuck right off. Not too interested in mysticism either.

Tldr = I'll stick with vanilla Christianity (via the New Testament gospels)
