I have always found this an interesting topic theology. Personally, I am under the opinion that animals have mortal souls (e.i. they have soul but they don't go to heaven or hell. This is their only life). I came to this conclusion as animals can not be possessed by demon (or if they do rarely) while objects can be freely or in the case for humans allowed. This suggests that something prevents this from happen, hence my opinion. Though I still don't hold the belief that animals go to heaven or hell as their is nothing theological to suggest this and rather more based on feelings.
