This is a socialist's stock response when you point out what an absolute oppressive bloodbath that socialism always turns out to be.
The fallacy here is that mass violence is built into socialism, on account of the fact that socialism is an attempt to get rid of the inequality that comes with the positive incentives (the only alternative to negative incentives) to be smarter, harder working, and bolder than your peers that are built into capitalism. Inevitably, the first stage of socialism involves the public becoming lazy and the ambitious people fucking off. Why would anyone want to work hard when their effort is likely to be rewarded by accusations of being bourgeois and a jail cell (or a bullet)? This is one of the causes of the shortage of quality products that's characteristic of socialism, AKA mass starvation and a general plummeting of people's standards of living. The government needs to solve this, but they've crossed out the possibility of letting people make a lot of money off of selling things, so what's left? Get those arrests revving up, boys! Proper revolutionaries meet their quotas! If you're not a revolutionary, then you're an anti-revolutionary, and anti-revolutionaries get a decade in prison! If this sounds an awful lot like a society of slaves to you, then congratulations, you've identified the true face of socialism! BTW, the day where people magically decide to work hard without incentives and in spite of suspicion and resentment aimed towards success will never come, so this is what true communism looks like.
Capitalism CAN BE HANDLED in such a way that it's a bloodbath.
Socialism WILL ALWAYS BE a bloodbath, and most of the blood that comes out of socialist countries is unambiguously due to the systemic problems of socialism.

People are free to establish socialist communes in America. You can donate all your money to collectivist charities and all their real estate and purchases are tax exempt.
They never do. A dozen people could pool money, save on rent and escape the system, but they never do. It fails on the smallest scale, with every advantage that comes from being propped up by outside capitalism and social services from the government.
They can soak up gibs and exempt themselves from taxes if they could just cooperate for a brief moment.
But they can't.

If their communities began to take off on account of sheer numbers, I'm 100% sure that they would turn to mass violence (first against the wealthy, then against everybody else, with some of the first being each other) within a few years at most. From leftist business owners who immediately become TOXIC CONSUMER FIRST MENTALITY to looters in the inner cities, their response to the idea of personal responsibility and personal hardship completely fits the stereotype
Every socialist is like every other socialist. These self-hating bourgeois kids and spiteful lazy fucks are not cut from a different cloth from their predecessors in the Soviet Union and others.
