I think the essence of capitalism is a common group of people agreeing to use 'the same thing as money', being born on earth and then attempting to 'capitalize' on themselves and their environment, to do that which can allot one a steady stream of money to best guarantee, assure, insure continued existence, with the hopes of achieving 'savable' (and spendable) returns equaling ones successful efforts of continually desirably valuable action

Then somewhere along the way, quite unavoidable, law and tax finds its way in the mix (and thats what politics is)(unless you want to include culture, which is like a 'vibe law')

We humans used to trade with each other and tribes all the time. Capitalism has always been around at least as long as there was excess. The worlds oldest profession is prostitution because it requires having an excess of goods and services.

If I have 10lbs of cherries and I only eat 2lbs of cherries, I can trade the rest for hammers, nails, ect.

Families and by extension tribes can be collectivist. Because people will part willingly with some of their property or labor for a person they know and love. Trying to scale that to countries with millions upon millions of people do not work. The participants cannot witness the fruits of their altruism for the most part, so they start to consider themselves robbed.
