Maybe you should have made sure you were in a sound economic position before having a kid. It's called having insurance. Most health insurance will cover pregnancy complications, and you can enlist your child under your own insurance plan the day they're born. If you've been paying into a decent insurance plan, then you have nothing to worry about.

That boy is plenty old enough so that whatever condition he has was almost certainly not pre-existing, and should be covered by his mother's insurance. If you don't have insurance, I don't see why it's up to complete strangers to pay thousands of dollars to help you. There's a reason why charity exists; people can give them money to help people in need, and it doesn't have to come at gunpoint via the state.
