Do you believe this meme or is it just banter? The meme that goes "Spaniards aren't white because they were conquered by Moors", "Serbia is not white because they were conquered by Turks", and "Hungary is not white because it was conquered by Huns", etc.
It's just banter, mostly. "Whiteness" as a concept only really applied to the new world, since it can't actually be measured by any means. It's a way of distinguishing the "us" from "them" in an unfamiliar land where previous national identities and borders no longer exist.

Ok I understand that is a common belief held by people. However, the other day I read an Austrian poster say that Europeans of different countries do have a collective identity of European/Western and that White Americans and other whites in former colonies are considered part of that. It seems that White identity is more common online, especially on /pol/.
