My family is from El Salvador but I was born in Deus Vult.
They actually just got back from a trip too.

Ive been there tons of times too and from I cant tell you, San Salvador and the eastern departments are more dangerous than the west. Although thats not to say the west isnt dangerous at all. As long as you dont look like a stereotypical tourist and dont dress too overly nice luxurious then you shouldnt be a target
