Out of all those cities, Chicago is the only one that has some really good shit going for it. Great public transportation, beautiful park spaces, lots of people with money. But, we also have whole swaths of city on the south and west sides that are nigger haven no-go zones, and unfortunately that does leak a bit into the civilized parts of the city. I think the reason there's so much talk about Chicago despite other cities being worse is because Chicago is actually worth saving.
Check out this map for the full story. Notice how much darker red the south and west sides are than the North East neighborhoods? With the exception of Hyde Park, right? That's because there's a university there and several big museums, so the riff-raff is kept out.
On the North East side, you'll see it's mostly the palest shade of pink, with the exception of Uptown, and that's because Uptown is like a containment zone for a bunch of halfway houses and residential nursing centers for the mentally ill. There's a low of low income housing (niggers) too.

St. Louis is only high because they lump East St. Louis into it. East St. Louis is an absolute shit hole in Illinois. South City isn't awful but not great, South County is pretty nice, a lot of areas 96%+ white. West County is almost entirely white. North St. Louis is a steaming pile of shit but not as bad as East St. Louis.

Chicago wasn't even in the top 20 until last year, and these are lists of large cities. Not sure where it sits now but for 2015, among all US municipalities, Chicago wasn't even in the top 100.

I think mainstream news emphasizes Chicago because it's sort of the only full-scale shithole in America whose largest demographic is white. (The other is Oakland, but that's a recent change most people don't know about.) When normies hear about Chicago gang violence, they think of a white city and organized crime, and it's a way to discuss inner city violence with some ambiguity about who is doing all the killing.

And then right leaning news plays along because they figure it humiliates Obama. As if he or his admirers give a god damn.

Cities like Chicago and Philadelphia have a lot more drug competition that leads to violence. Detroit is basically completely controlled by just a couple large gangs. It's like Oakland, ghetto as hell but no gang war going on because one gang runs the whole show.

It's even worse than those numbers indicate, since the city of STL is 42% white, and their murder victimization rate is closer to 3 per 100K than 60.

And then you have to remember that black women are a lot less likely to be murdered than black men. And that older and really young black males are less-likely to be murdered than males in their teens through their 40's.

If you are a black male in St. Louis aged 14 to 45 or so, the murder rate for your demographic is probably around 300 to 350 per 100K.

And those aren't really murder-rate numbers; those are the kinds of numbers you see among soldiers in active war-zones.
