So I get that responsibility can give you a sense of purpose, but what kind of responsibility besides parenting is he talking about?
As a uni student my responsibility is basically just to get good grades and network, I still feel like a piece of shit though.

There's more than just reproduction, anon. Consider how you can become stronger yourself to better your community in the future. Is there a skill you could be learning in your free time? A little more time spent at the gym or exercising at home? How are you eating? Are you setting an example for those around you? This, not merely a simple dedication to the work immediately afore you is required to truly sort yourself out. Become the leader you wish you saw in others. You'll find that the feeling of purpose comes when others find their own improvement through your example.
