Was pretty solid indeed but the constant infighting between city-states was a bit of a set back, retarded religion too ( sacrificing goats every now and then), even though it might have had the bonus of men always being strong and not cosmopolitan ( theorically the weakest men die in battle, and there are more women for the strong men).

OP didn't really mention all of Greece desu. Greece was really just city-states, where Sparta had the best military power, and Athens were the ones who were responsible for most of the science, philosophy and maths.
