Lolbertarians will STILL oppose the minimum wage after this

http://q13fox.com/2017/06/20/seattles-15-minimum-wage-hasnt-cut-jobs-study-finds/

>Seattle's $15-an-hour minimum wage law has boosted pay for restaurant workers without costing jobs, according to a study released Tuesday.

>The report, from the University of California at Berkeley's Institute for Research on Labor and Employment, is certain to add to the debate as activists around the country push for increases in local, state and federal minimum wages.

>The report is the first in a series of reviews in which the institute is examining jurisdictions that have raised their minimum wages.

>It focused on food service jobs, which some critics said could be disproportionately affected if increased wages forced restaurants to cut workers' hours. Author Michael Reich said that hasn't been the case.

>The results should give more confidence to other jurisdictions around the country that have adopted $15-an-hour laws, he said.

>"We were surprised," Reich said Tuesday. "The results were so much clearer than is often the case."

That's inflation, not related to minimum wage. It's just something that happens constantly.
It's why minimum wage increases make sense.

Dude, think, if you jack up the price at which you have to pay workers, then you have less cash left over for expansion and advertisement, to continue making more money that will sustain your business you need to increase the price of your products. Additionally the prices of your components to make products will increase because now the vendors you purchase from has to pay all their employees more so they have to jack their prices up. Minimum wage causes inflation to increase and further reduces the purchasing power of the consumer.
>>
>>131023118
So explain why is it that all the social democratic nations of the world don't have a government mandated minimum wage? And before you say it, it's because the market corrects itself when you let private entities beef it out.

Something like 3% of Americans are paid minimum wage you mongoloid. And of those most are college or high school students. Of those most have no dependents and many are getting financial help from family. Minimum wage is literally a non-issue. The real reason people want a higher minimum wage so bad is because union wages are often based on the current minimum wage.

Facts vs feelings, friendo. You can't help people when there's nobody to help. Instead you're lining the pockets of opportunistic union workers

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that a CBO study determined that job loss among that 3% would be significant. Can't be arsed to find it myself so if what I already said isn't enough feel free to search for it

Seattlefag here, don't buy into the minimum wage meme, the only reason the Seattle economy didn't take a hit is because there's a hyper-inflated consumer-surplus bubble here, and it'll burst if there is any upset to Asian imports or Montana exports through the Puget sound. And another reason it hasn't turned completely to shit yet is because the rest of the state has a lower minimum wage than Seattle does.

Okay, I'll bite. Please recommend one. Is Keynes's General Theory too novice?

Also, just so I can get a sense for your own understanding. Do you think $20T has any negative side effects? If so, which do you think is worst? Do you think reaching 200% of GDP is too much debt? What model suggest the right percentage?

Yeah. Move to Seattle then.
I am not a middle aged person with a minimum wage job.
If you are, then fuck you and give me my egg mcmuffin. But I'll tell you now, as your middle aged failures voting for this, I won't pay more for my egg mcmuffin when the price goes up. You will likely be on the chopping block when they make employee cuts and ease in auto-server bots to take orders.
Then I'll be considerably more pissed and hate niggers and middle aged failures even more, because I'm working my assignment off full time only to deliver a third of my check to feed the unemployed waste that you are.

Minimum wage is not supposed to be a living wage and you are not supposed to stay at that job your entire life.

The issue is that people who do think they deserve more when on reality no one deserves anything except for the chance on earth that God and their parents forced upon them, and whatever our Constitution guarantees (which are negative liberty assurances). In other words, no one in America or on earth is entitled to anything.

It may be tied to oil, but I don't think the USD is considered 'commodity currency'. Raising the minimum simply does nothing if your dollar has little to no value. We need to do things that strengthen the dollar so the consumer has more purchasing power. $10.00 an hour was great in the 80s and 90s, let's get back to that.

if it saves me the 10 minutes it takes the downie at the register to push the button shaped like a hamburger, I'm game. Especially on the cook side

These economic studies are useless because they take different assumptions every time. One day 15 $/h minimum wage is a disaster, another day it creates jobs. Only one way to find out.

>>131023118
Is anyone surprised by this? Strong unions pushed for this decades ago in Europe and nothing bad happened. Just capitalists trying to capital as always
>>
>>131031240
Lots of places in the world have high minimum wages and keep the same number of employees

The negative effects of min wage hikes isn't immediate. It causes inflation, as well as totally devaluing the people who USED to work at 15/hr. Imagine you make 15/hr. Then the burger flippers who used to make 7.5/hr gets his wage boosted. Now it's equivalent to yours, even though your job may require more effort, more skill, or whatever else. Why work that job it now effectively became a minimum wage job?

Useless jobs should disappear. They will disappear at some stage anyway so let´s speed the process up.

>the owners can afford to pay more but its only big chains that can do that

even still, the big chains are mostly franchisees and have much tighter margins than average joes can comprehend. There's a reason something like 1in10 restaurants fail within their first year, regardless of it being tied to a national chain or being a local establishment. UBI or a $15/hr min is going to do nothing but raise the economy's "point zero" starting point and trickle up prices on EVERYTHING, hurting everyone currently making $16/hr+

Its a political stunt and fake news;

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/michaelsaltsman/2017/06/21/the-problems-with-a-new-study-on-seattles-15-minimum-wage/

>The City of Seattle was already funding a highly-qualified, unbiased research team at the University of Washington to do such a report. The team includes a roster of impressive researchers from a wide variety of backgrounds–ranging from Jacob Vigdor, who is a professor at the University and an adjunct fellow at the Manhattan Institute, to Hillary Wething, who was formerly at the union-backed Economic Policy Institute.

>The UW reports on Seattle’s $15 experiment had something for everyone. Unfortunately for the Mayor’s office, their conclusions on the early stages of Seattle’s $15 wage experiment were not uniformly positive. The Washington Post reports:
>The average hourly wage for workers affected by the increase jumped from $9.96 to $11.14, but wages likely would have increased some anyway due to Seattle’s overall economy. Meanwhile, although workers were earning more, fewer of them had a job than would have without an increase. Those who did work had fewer hours than they would have without the wage hike.

>Nuanced conclusions like this one don’t lend themselves to celebratory press releases like the one the Mayor’s office put out yesterday. Enter the Berkeley team, which always arrives at the same positive conclusion on minimum wage no matter the number: In their view, a higher minimum wage is always a good thing.

>In an expose published last year, the Albany Times-Union used emails obtained via public records request to explore the motivations of the Berkeley team:
>The Times Union was recently provided hundreds of pages of emails among minimum wage advocates, Jacobs and other Berkeley academics, demonstrating a deep level of coordination between academics and advocates….
>The Berkeley Labor Center has done at least six other studies on the minimum wage in California municipalities, all showing that a wage increase would be beneficial. In fact, Jacobs could not name a study conducted by Berkeley that said raising wages would have an overall negative impact. …
>
Given this history of identical results, it’s not surprising that the Murray administration in Seattle was anxious to have a copy of the predictably-positive Berkeley report to tout on the third anniversary of its minimum wage law

It's very hard to carry out controlled double-blind studies in macro-economics, for example there is very rarely a control group. This study doesn't meet the standard that would be required for sure knowledge.

What can be reached with confidence is any conclusion that can be derived with pure logic, which indicates that price controls of all types are flawed and sub-optimal.

>raise minimum wage to 15 dollars
>people refuse to work regular jobs that pay the same as a fucking McDonald's cashier
>most corporations refuse to pay that much
>many lose jobs

Is it $15 as a flat wage with no raises? If this happened in my city, I'd feel kind of cheated as it took me 11 years just to get to $14/hr. Even worse is how Walmarts pay structure has a 2% annual wage increase, which is half of what it usually is.
