When you accept this loss of freedoms naturally would should come is a change in the peoples attitude, that people will become healthier knowing they are costing others. This is what happens in an ideal commie world but like all their dumb ideas it never works. Look at australia or the uk, we are fat as fuck and have to pay for each others scooters and diabeetus meds. You then get an explosion in healthcare costs where our tax brackets are now 50% of income.

There is no need to fight obesity if people pay for the consequences but as we shift more and more to relying on our neighbor to pay for our latest cholesterol medication we need something will be done. whether it comes to healthcare rationing as government slowly realises it cannot tax at 150% to fund it all or simply government mandated cardio will be real question.

The government mostly can't regulate what the parents feed the child but they can regulate what happens in schools and the adverts that children are exposed to (to a degree)

It's not gonna solve it completely but it will have an effect, if kids learn about nutrition, know where potatoes come from, are used to the feel and taste of green vegetables from an early age and are exposed consistently to the idea that bad nutritiona and exercise is harmful and leads to being overweight

People are too afraid to offend people nowadays, a point system would be jumped on immediately, although I think it's sensible, why should tax payers fund reoccurring self inflicted health problems. NHS isn't there to fund the side-effects of a poor lifestyle choice. that could apply to a lot of things other than obesity also.

You also need to question why something that is so bad for our health in frequently large amounts is still so commonplace in foods? If the government truly gave a shit about your health they'd ban sugar as it is more dangerous that most illegal drugs.

Any alternative to sugar will be battled by the sugar lobby, usually in the form of "scientific" studies proving that "Stevia" or whatever it may be causes cancer.

I don't see why not, food is so integral to life and culture, you can use food as a basis to teach about so much- biology, chemistry, geography, histroy. You can get kids growing fruit and veg at school and coming up with healthy recipes which they can learn to cook. Can teach them about money and budgetting by giving them £10 and planning a meal for a family through online shopping.
