Because to the average normie burger, there is only "white" and "black" on a normal day. The different subgroups of white are bypassed, as they are for nignogs. The US is also a very young country/culture.

The thousands of years shared between different groups and subgroups on the european continent is completely alien to them, even though they are descendants of said groups but even then the culture to them is nothing more than a fun trinket to look at, see: plastic paddies and LARPagans.
There are also many african cultures, languages, and genetic groups that your slave descendants don't even acknowledge the existence of, let alone understand.

The "we are all Americans" mantra doesn't help. The US is a very large place with a very weak, mixed identity. The Burgers of today could be a lot different if the confederacy won.
