>As noted byRed Alert Politics, the Bay Area is headed for a $15 minimumwage in July of 2018, though they'vealready seen over 60 restaurants close since September.

California is gonna collapse far before an earthquake hits it

Illinois just put into plans for a $15/hr minimum too. They already have a marginal private sector economy outside financial sector, this is just going to crush what little remains.

The republicans who predicted exactly this are stupid and greedy and it's really capitalism's fault
>>130956548
You mean exactly what we told the morons would happen has happened? Gee, who fucking knew.

The study specified that $1 increases in the minimum wage tended to increase the chance of restaurant closure by 14% for normal restaurants, with the effects becoming more dramatic the lower the quality of a restaurant, whereas minimum wage hikes basically don't affect the top-quality (5 star) restaurants
So on one hand, it does kill jobs but on the other hand, it means only the best survive...not sure if that's better or worse

Increase it another dollar and you are at 1/4 of places closing. (Assuming 28%, which is a lot to assume but not outside of the realm of possibilities.) that's a lot of competition closing and it's basically forced capitalism. Free market solves the issue of bad places closing their doors.
Lower income places generally have worse reviews because they offer less, but they do still contribute jobs. Given America is moving towards a service economy I think it's a net loss.
