They aren't. At least not if we talk about the average Indian. They are 1.3 billion people so of course, despite the average IQ of 82, there will be a lot of Indians with an intelligence over average just because of the sheer number of them. So every scientist/doctor/professor etc. stands against a horde of literal subhumans statistically.

Even with average IQ of 85 india have over a billion people. That means that at the extreme ends of the curve, by brute numbers alone, you'd get hundreds of thousands of genius level indians. Those people are absolutely underutilized back home, as a country filled with borderline retards do not have the capacity to do so. So they emigrate and find a use for their skills in tech companies all across the world. As such in the public opinion indians are represented as genuinely smart bunch.

Looking back at india itself, and the overwhelming majority of indians this can be easily refuted.

Indians in general are not smart.
