Well, I haven't read many, but I read a few deep ecology and eco-anarchist writers as a poli-sci undergrad. I don't remember the names. He writes for a perspective that takes more into account human drives. He also writes from outside of academia and left-right, whereas most other eco writers are implicitly and somewhat tediously socialist. He is ultimately a poor judge of human nature (owing in part to autism-like damage born of his isolation as an infant due to medial reasons). He approaches the complex systems of society too mathematically and fails to account for the degree to which humans actually can (I believe) shape outcomes.

Yeah. But if you're not well-read or emotionally balanced, don't. If you're the type who quickly becomes extreme and "redpilled" on topics, don't. It's a well-written and interesting analysis of important themes. It can help you clarify your own values and expectations regarding technology. The writings themselves don't really mention violence -- it's not a call-to-arms-type thing. It's academic-grade political theory.

Ted was one my first redpills. I was a leftist activist at one time, and I had a fascination with any ideas that were deemed 'dangerous' by society, so in addition to reading marxist literature, I thought I'd give the Unabomber manifesto a read. At first, I was put off by the way he trashed modern leftism, but around the time Occupy happened, I began to realize his observations were spot on.
And not just on that particular topic, because even the modern right falls into a lot of the same trap- As technology advances, it interrupts the effort-attainment-reward feedback loop that people psychologically need to feel fulfilled.
Lack of meaningful work fucks a person up mentally and often compels them to extremist behavior- an observation made by Eric Hoffer in 'The True Believer'- a big influence on Kaczynski, and another book worth checking out.

This is why great civilizations create ways for people who "don't want to participate", while still being useful for their nations/communities, see monks. The problem with modern societies is that they don't appreciate this way of life anymore.

His solution was laughably bad, as was his methods to bring it about.

Technology will not be stopped, whether we can subvert the technological process and remain masters of our own ends is an open question.
