Gun control

So my wife just came to me and said that since we are expecting our first child that I should strongly consider selling all of my guns. She's made some convincing arguments and I'm starting to feel myself believing more and more that gun control is necessary.

I considered myself an avid gun owner but now I see just how dangerous they are to a civilized society. Millions of children die every year as a result of assault weapons ownership. Neither of use are leftists but the thought of my children getting gunned down at a theater, school, or playground has me reconsidering my stance on gun ownership.

After a lot of thought we made the decision that I would sell my guns and use the money to do some landscaping and other things around the house.

Why can't there be a civilized discussion in this nation? It shouldn't have to come to pic related but I'd be in support of it if it meant stopping the deaths of innocent people.
