The Order leadership seemed to show up at just the right time and place to get great benefits off of others success.

I actually have ties to Iberia, I'm able to trace my ancestors back to the Kingdom of Asturias, one of the last refuges of Christianity in Iberia after the Muslim invasion, where the Reconquista and resistance to Muslim rule started. It's a big part of why I'm so interested in the history.

Cmon man, even the original Knights Templar itself didn't play much of a part in the Reconquista, they were pretty busy defending the Holy Land and pilgrims, that being their founding purpose. I know Portugal's history is closely tied to them, but you also have native Knight Orders that were founded by native Iberians, specifically to help with the Reconquista, like Santiago and Calatrava.

They definitely helped, I just don't like seeing a foreign group get most of the credit over the natives who were fighting and pushing back the Muslims for over hundreds of years before they arrived.

It's far more likely it was the other way around, that the Templars were founded by the "Illuminati"(Which means enlightened). They specifically chose Solomon as their patron, a man famous for his wisdom, rebellion towards God, and his occult knowledge, including being able to control demons. If you're trying to work to dismantle the Church from within, who better to choose as your patron then one of their own figures? Bruh, now you're changing the whole topic, we were originally talking about the Knights Templar, not Crusaders in general. Most "Crusaders" were farmers turned warriors, not knights from Holy Orders. I even said outside forces helped, but the Reconquista was a fucking 700 year long war, Iberians did the vast majority of the fighting, conquering, and defending against Muslim raids.

The fact remains that the Knights Templar were by far not the main player in the Reconquista.
