Even the slightest sign of an aggressive past is a no go. Make him wait 5 years, if he didn't commit a crime, then he can buy a gun. It's happened before. It will happen again. They might just tell you that to get your guard down. The police have these procedures to protect themselves and you. When to use deadly force used to be up to an officer's discretion so it resulted in uneven application and then whether it was justified was up to the judge.

Of course an officer will still be charges but they cannot be found guilty as long as they follow procedure. This greatly incentivises following proper procedure for applying the correct amount of force for the situation.

It was a few factors (that Philando is mostly responsible for) that caused the shooting.
