Importance of the Father figure

Yesterday, it was father's day in USA and some of you shared some touching stories about them. In short, let's thank our fathers for everything they have done to you and discuss the role of the father figure.

>Two swiss parents but he grew up in Algeria
>parents divorced and he got back to Switzerland with his mother
>Lunatic mom and the absence of a father model, hard times for him
>after some years meet my mother, his first love when he was 20
>He married her, became a teacher and got 2 children with her
>The marriage is going fine for a few years
>Then they divorced when I was 4. My mother told me that "it wasn't going well anymore" I never got details on this though. My mother badmouthed him frequently but he never did it
>He moved to another place and became a 2/14 days dad
>My brother and I weren't able to see him a lot but he took good car of us, insisting on giving a large pension to my mother for us. The pension was big because she wasn't working and of course you need a lot of money for 2 children (and a poor not working independant womyn). In fact he was affraid that he couldn't give us enough because his father nearly forgot him during many years.
>He taught me to ski and bike
>We went skiing nearly every weekeend during winter and hiking in mountain or biking in the campaign during summer until I was 16
>Going to holidays from time to time with him and his new wife
>He could reconcile with his father
>After I'm 18 he continued to pay for the pension because I'm studying and of course my mom is still not working
>I spoke to him saying he's paying too much and he should reduce the pension because my mom could work. He was inflexible insisting on his father's role (he had financially problems to buy a new car back then)

>tfw he took so much care of me and my brother and I and I don't know how I can even thank him
