This is the problem. You don't need a religion to see the benefits of a nuclear family and fiscal and social conservatism. No. The republican base wanted that. Their big donors wanted more immigration and lax border enforcement and that's what they got. Neocons have been in control of at least 2 of the 3 branches of gov't for the majority of the last 17 years.
