Ave maria.

Brothers I have a topic for theological discussion. Do the intentions of the person being baptised matter in terms of validating or invalidating the baptism. I asked my priest about it who seemed to say they don't matter but then I threw him a curve ball saying what about if a gnostic gets baptised and he was unsure and said he'd have to think on it. From my understanding the person receiving baptism must believe in the trinity and that is all that is needed for it to be valid. Thus Arian's and gnostics would not be able to be baptised or any other non trinitarian believer even if they were baptised in the trinitarian formula.

This raises issues with adult baptisms as a lot of protestants seem to be straying into Arianism, thus can it be said that their baptism was valid if they genuinely hold Arian beliefs without realising these contradict christianity? Thoughts in general?

Non religious here, but can I ask an honest question? Seriously I want to know.
You know that in times of Jesus like 4 people knew how to write, and those people were rich motherfuckers working for the cesar. They certainly were not fishermen and carpenters and shit. So, who wrote the bible?
>inb4 jesus granted them writing powers, but I think that if that were the case, somo allusion to that should be in the bible
>inb4 someone wrote it for them, but romans didn't like christians very much at that stage
>>
>>130674864
Another question. When a pope is elected what happens to his hold bishopric? Does he pass it on to a new ordination as he receives the bishopric of Rome? What bishopric does pope Benedict hold? Surely both Francis and Benedict can't hold Rome at the same time?

Matthew was a tax collector who knew how to write. I think Luke was a doctor? Peter and Paul both had secretaries write theirs for them. Don't know how mark john or James knew

I have it every now and again in mine. Escape the priest mumbles it very quickly and has terrible diction and pronunciation of the Latin so it doesn't have the best effect. I love a mixture of catholic and local use though. They both have their advantages

I think that the "amount of faith" is disputable. My opinion is that if person is baptised because of formality like when he/she wants to for example marry believer - this can make a baptism not valid.

But if person wants to be baptised, because of "just in case" reason, this can be probably valid imo because its the amount of faith and not the amount of doubt that is judged and even small amount of faith is valid...

(sorry for language);

I recommend reading the Eastern orthodox bible as it explains these things. Paul and peter also mention their secretaries in their epistles. Don't forget christianity exploded in growth in the lives of the apostles and converted lots of upper class romans and Greeks, hence why Latin and Greek were the first languages it was written in.

So i had a theological revelation recently. No one can be born gay. Gay is a choice. How? Well it is know through our doctrine that homosexuality is a sin, and is said in the New Testament. If homosexuality is a sin, then No one can be born gay because God didn't design people to be intentional sinners( i.e. No one is born a theif or a murderer, it is a result of conditions). That being said we still cant go around hating the gays, but we can convince them that the are not gay.

People can be born with a propensity to sin though because of the original sin of Adam corrupting our bodies. Those born with exclusive same sex attraction are victims of that sin. Yes sin is not a definition of someone. That's why homosexuality is a choice for there is the choice to reject it just like one would reject sexual perversions like adultery. No man should proudly call himself an adulterer just like no man should proudly call himself a homosexual

I am a lapsed Catholic and lately I've become more interested in faith and spirituality but can't bring myself to returning to the church as it's gay as fuck, non traditional and therefore doesn't appeal to me. I'd be at mass every week if it were like it once was but sadly it's not and modern Catholicism is very unappealing. I wish we had an Irish orthodox church as I find myself more drawn towards orthodoxy rather than the faggotry of the Catholic church. Nowadays I simply identify as a Christian.
>>
>>130679698
The Holy Spirit is literally God's presence in your mind. It descended among the first believers and made them persuasive to non-believers, and invulnerable to anti-Christian rhetoric. It gave them the courage to die for their beliefs.

If you don't go to a catholic church then you have no faith in Jesus. Why would to reject the absolution of your sins and becoming one with god in the Eucharistic feast just because "service is gay"? Catholicism is more important than the choice of liturgy
>>
>>130680610

Find a used pre-1962 hand missal and give the Tridentine mass a shot, or at least look for an older parish that still has more conservative Novus Ordo masses and clergy.

I'm a convert from Protestantism and the contemporary-style masses really turn me off. I'm lucky that I'm in a fairly conservative parish and in a diocese that has opportunities to celebrate the TLM. There really is something special about it.

Catholicism has become unappealing to me and I feel like I can be still a Christian without it all. I do appreciate the beauty of Catholicism and think other countries do a better job of it but Irish Catholicism sucks balls. I wish we had things like Santa semana here and corpus Christi but we don't. Our Catholicism here isn't as good as what's practiced elsewhere in Europe and that saddens me.
>>
>>130681931
Christianity is implied by Catholic. It is impossible to be catholic and not be a christian. However not all christians are catholics
>>
>>130681362
I won't find any of that here. Our chapel is a modernist ugly building and the masses are just modernist masses too and no traditional Catholic masses. I love the monastic chants of Catholicism and listen to them regularly on YT to cleanse the mind and meditate. What we're missing around here is the beauty of the faith.

>Do the intentions of the person being baptised matter in terms of validating or invalidating the baptism
A baptism can't be invalidated. Under unam sanctum and sola fide, it's irrelevant, IF you have faith and receive your other sacraments.
However, it doesn't guarantee that you will be accepted to heaven, even if you punch every ticket. As St. Augustine said, ""How many sheep there are without, how many wolves within".
>>
>>130682150
You will always be a christian for there is only one irrevocable baptism. I empathise that it is a travesty for tradition to be trampled. Yet have faith, the holy spirit will prevail for the body of Christ is incorruptible. As long as your bishop is apostolically ordained then the church exists in its whole and universal nature with him and is true. But to refuse the church and the absolution of sins in favour of pettiness of liturgical preference is to refuse Christ and leads to damnation. Go back to church. Confess with a priest and take the Eucharist then be the change you want the church to be
