Can modern technology make communism work?

Kind of. There probably wouldn't be mass starvation this time, but it still doesn't mean the communism will be optimal solution.

No
Nothing will ever make Communism work
Yes. Read 'Towards a new socialism'' .

Honestly I think machine learning and AI could be the keys to 'working' communism, but even if communism worked out exactly how its supposed to it inherently has problems and suppresses individuality and creativity.

A communist society would free individuals from long working hours by first automating production to an extent that the average length of the working day is reduced and second by eliminating the exploitation inherent in the division between workers and owners. A communist system would thus free individuals from alienation in the sense of having one's life structured around survival (making a wage or salary in a capitalist system), which Marx referred to as a transition from the "realm of necessity" to the "realm of freedom." As a result, a communist society is envisioned as being composed of an intellectually-inclined population with both the time and resources to pursue its creative hobbies and genuine interests, and to contribute to creative social wealth in this manner. Karl Marx considered "true richness" to be the amount of time one has at his or her disposal to pursue one's creative passions. Marx's notion of communism is in this way radically individualistic.

Well put but here's my question. Why do you assume that everyone would happily what little material wealth they have? One's soul determines one's birth and by that I mean that there will always be evil and good among humans, since some souls are corrupted. There will always be this small clique of intellectuals or brutes that will want to take advantage of the largest portion of society, it's inevitable. With AGI that option will only be easier to attain for these so called elite. Besides, who would maintain this AGI, who would be the owner, who is going to make sure that it is not tampered with in a way that it is used against humanity's benefit? What you are proposing is the synthesis of an Utopia that in real life will only hold for less than 5 years before some started deviating from the path.

Fuck out of here with this shit
The problem with communism isn't technology its its flawed premises

It would really start by making an incorruptible computer system capable of defending itself from corrupted people.
