Almost a decade of record low interest rates and unprecedented amounts of currency creation across the entire world orchestrated in coordination by each nations' central bank has lead to the greatest transfer of wealth from the middle class to societies' richest in the shortest period of time in human history. As someone who vaguely remembers life before the internet, i can honestly say that it has just made the world a colder, shittier, socially isolated, less considerate, crueler place and everything from drive in theaters to friday night dances to live concert venues will dissapear for more convenient but insincere alternatives that dont involve leaving home. I travel frequently for work and one conclusion I can draw is that America is in a major state of decay. Its not like this at all Asia, in fact over there everything is new, slick, flashy, modern and cutting edge, even in former shithole urban areas like Seoul or Bangkok. Actually old fag here, everything is much nicer than it used to be generally.

Its like the 70's took a huge nose dives and something about the 80's and 90's was just gross and weird in terms of quality, cleanliness and style.

There is something to this. I am from MD. MD has a large Black population. The public transit system here buses Blacks to the county, where the malls are located. The two malls that come to mind for me are White Marsh and Towson. I went to Towson not too long ago - nothing but Muslims and Blacks. I hardly seen ANY Whites. Towson is very nice area, mind you. Then, when you're driving by the mall, you have loads of Blacks at the bus stop. White Marsh mall is DONE. I used to hang out at White Marsh mall as a child. And then you have East Point Mall - where foreigners in the store HAGGLE with you. They fucking HAGGEL. That's what you do in a Moroccan market, not at a mall in the U.S. Fucking insane.

I haven't been to my childhood city since I left 17 years ago so I can't comment on the malls I grew up in. However I learned of the closure of an amusement park a few years ago that has been around since the 1968. If you read the news reports it mentions lack of income and higher property value vs. their revenue being the motivation.

I dug around and found a somewhat web forum dedicated to the park that had been around for at least 10 years. Many former employees and managers and townspeople wrote their stories, memories, inside scoops, and exchanged images and info about the park, as it meant a great impression upon several generations growing up (I know it did to me, one of the last generations to enjoy it before it closed.)

What I saw in this forum distrubed me. There would be children of illegal/poor latinos whose parents bought year long passes who were dropped off at the gate every day during summer. These kids would rove around the park begging for money, begging for leftovers, dig through the trash for leftovers in the eating areas. And this is a literally gated, Six Flags amusement park. It became a third world bubble.

Worse, and I saw some of this before I left in the late 90s, were the descriptions of the "urban youths." Latin gangbangers loitering around like it was the cool place to go, and threatening groups of young black kidsand according to the things I read you would see graffiti.

This is the 'hidden' story. This is what the news doesn't tell you, what those who live in the area and work there have to tell you in secret on fourms lest their reputation and careers be ruined.

That's simply because the theaters themselves make no money off of the movies they show, it's all off of the concessions. AMC seems to be doing fine and they've ever remodeled all their locations to have recliners and heated seats if you pay a bit extra which has made every single theater review I've seen spike up high thanks to that.
