Refugee crisis is a legit fuck-up after fucking about in the middle east for so long. Merkel wanted to present a united front and pretend to have core values to strengthen the legitimacy of the EU project by showing compassion for the refugees, as well as an opportunity for political cooperation among EU members, (never waste a crisis), quickly realizing that nobody on the continent except EU bureaucrats themselves gave a fuck about a united front or "European values".
