People holding dominant opinions on things will inherently hold the opinion that needs least defending.

People section themselves off into online communities and environments where they only hear the dominant/popular opinion. Other people (the vast majority) don't care at all about politics and read headlines to confirm their own bias and continue on with their lives. This is much easier as when holding popular opinions.

Regardless, this doesn't mean /pol/ is an echo chamber. This echo chamber has only grown with the trump election. Just because people aren't explicitly banned for holding controversial opinions doesn't mean someone can say something and have it absolutely drowned out by those who instantly reject and delegitimize the contrary opinions within that specific group (being /pol/). If you post wild theories about how some democracy has loose connections to some convicted pedophile - this is damning evidence of pedophile Satan world order. If you post evidence of Trump's direct relationship known pedophiles and flying on Lolita airways then you're a shill. There are literally Shila here but it's not the Jewish conspiracy, it's the property spamming fedora pictures in threads about religion. It's people spamming shariablue in threads criticizing Trump.

/pol/ is certainly open for debate but it is heavily influenced by repression of dissenting opinions. This is by no means am open space of ideas.

Hes right. The end of everything that was began in 2008 with the introduction of the smartphone. Ive thought about this alot as I feel alot of real alienation from my own people in life and we used to be so close. Prior to 2008 we, my family and extended family, had weekly in person Sunday dinners every week for decades it seemed. Weekly dinners. daily phone calls, multiple times a day for even little shit. near daily in person interactions. Thats all gone now. ITS GONE.
Now, those same exact people post on FB their updates and photos. Everyone posts back and forth. They send texts to each others phones. No one has the family dinner anymore. that is gone with the wind.
Our relationships are digital now, preserved for the govt whenever it may become useful material for study or application. Its a disconnection i never thought possible but it happened.
same at work. NO ONE talks to each other at my job anymore. No one makes eye contact..we work in near silence...we look at our phones during slow times of the shift...we wear earbuds for music so even when someone speaks they are rudely interrupting our music.
We read different news sources that tell us what we already think and its the exact opposite of what others are reading and watching. Both sides believe the other side is going to prison. (trump or hillary) its a very strange new world that has me convinced smartphone technology is placing us in a satanic trance. we hold these phones in our hands or at our faces...a mark on our hands or foreheads as it says in the Bible...I think these are those times coming true, not with Hollywood cgi level dragons from the sea and visble marks of the beast but a glowing screen that hypnotizes us into dull apathy and deep perversions and our own friends and family know less about us than internet strangers and search engines.
