Why not just house them temporarily in Hotels and Motels until the government can find them suitable public housing? I don't think the businesses would mind as they're getting paid by the government for it and they show a bit of a charity at the same time too. The only other alternative I can think of is if they government provides incentives for those house owners to rent out their empty homes (at the governments expense) to those people. That and find some people in London or in the general area willing to share their homes with the effected families.

If no one buys your property because it's too fucking expensive, you have no choice but to lower the price if you really want to sell (which is generally what you want to do, because owning multiple properties is worthless when you only really need two at most).

For any situation where the state steps in and buys the overpriced property, it's clientele policy to reward those property owners for their loyalty towards your party.

Taxing them isn't an awful idea in theory, but in practice I think these people are so rich they won't care. Then, again, you have to assess what constitutes living in a property actually is, and what implications that would have for other people. Yes the government would at least be making some money off them, but it would be a drop in the ocean and make fuck all difference to society as a whole. Then you have to get the property prices down from where they are in London, which will piss a lot of people off if they end up in negative equity and cause mayhem.

As far as I am concerned, London is a lost cause. I was actually offered a transfer there but turned it down as the cost of living is just insane. I am down there a few times a year for training courses and the prices are utter madness, thank fuck for expenses. I genuinely don't know why anyone would choose to live there.

Agreed but wouldn't issuing higher taxes for overseas buyers using the UK as a second home go some way to ameliorating this? It would certainly bypass the issue with the taxes affecting UK residents with second-homes. Fairly sure this is common practice in many other European countries.
