Mid stage abortions at weeks 16 to 24 are dangerous to the mother's health, traumatic generally and also can cause potential feelable harm to the aborted baby.
Why not just allow abortions in the first trimester (first 13-14 weeks). Women know exactly that they are pregnant by then. If they wait longer than 14 weeks, they should have the baby, except in exceptional cases where their life is in serious danger from the pregnancy.

Why heart beat and not first neural connections with the body? Isn't the sign of a living human the brain wave functions rather than the heart beat? There are people who are braindead in a hospital after an accident and we can keep their heart beating for a long time, but they are still braindead.
