Texas was heralded as one of the great economic centers of the 21st century, however our growth has stagnated because our politicians are more concerned with bathrooms than keeping our economy competitive. Nonetheless, I still love my state. Our culture and history is one of the most unique in the US, if not the western world. We can turn this slump around with a simple refocus on the economy, and stop moralfagging over minor social issues.
The question is, how do we go about that? Personally, I believe we need start building our own silicon valley of sorts. Innovation is the main driving force of any capitalist system, therefore research and development is a vital sector of the economy. We have tons of land, why not use this to build launch pads for SpaceX and other space age companies? The state government could also help facilitate a deal between these companies and Lockheed-Martin to build spacecraft for them. Additionally, not only reinvesting in the Superconducting Super Collider that was supposed to be built in Waxahachie, but creating similar facilities across Texas on a large scale seems as though it would be beneficial for us in the long term. We could use a workfare system to build them, then rent them out to R&D companies, and in turn use these funds to build other sectors of our economy up.
Obviously, I'm spit-balling ideas right now, so critique is welcome. Economically speaking I believe in a free market, but Nat-Soc is too powerful to ignore in our current predicament.

I'm fine with Christian doctrine being dominant here, but it's a bathroom. Local governments can take care of that on their own. A governor needs to be considering more important issues, like the economy.
