No it's college that gives free thought and enlightenment.

The base salaries are pretty shit, especially as enlisted. You can earn some bonuses for going into certain fields or have certain skills.

You also get several allowances in addition to pay. About $1,000 a month for housing, $200 for food, some for clothing. Also get free medical for the most part and some additional tax benefits. You might get a cost of living adjustment if assigned somewhere really expensive to live.

Also get access to VA loans which tend to have some extra benefits and you get lots of discounts at places.
