because they're under the impression that science is on their side, but they don't realize how much people have to bend science to make it that way.
For example, most polls used turnout similar to Obama to compare Trump and Hillary, but they didn't take into account that no one liked Hillary and no one cares about a woman president compared to a black president.
Nate Silver tried to damage control this by saying "nuh uh more wwc dems flipped to Trump" but they should have detected this in polling.

Because they're collectivists, so they naturally place a high value on what the majority thinks. Or at least what they're told the majority thinks. Most people don't bother to look at what the questions asked actually are or whos being asked and where they live when it comes to polls.
