There is a difference between the water boiling up and the magma underneath. The water is relatively shallow. The magma underneath could be building up immense pressure.

I've seen videos showing how the lakes in Yellowstone are moving. Imagine having a plastic tarp with puddles of water on it. If you lift one end of the tarp the puddles will move along the surface of the tarp. The same is happening at yellowstone. On one side of the lake the trees are being drowned by the water. On the other side of the lake there are no tall trees near the shores because that land has only been above water for a few years.

The lakes are slowly crawling along inch by inch as the ground swells beneath them.
